I thought it was some sort of drink making machine, like a milk shake mixer you find in ice cream shops. I am not sure if that is a good guess though since I have no idea if India is aware of the awesomeness of a butterscotch milkshake.

Not a bad guess. It does look a bit like an inverted version of the ice-cream shake mixing machines.
They do have some milkshakes here, but I’ve not found butterscotch yet. The hunt continues.
