Getting Around

One of the things I love about travel is how many different modes of transport one can use in a short period of time. In just seven days, I traveled from hither to yon on the following seventeen modes of transport:

  1. ElephantWalk
  2. Taxi
  3. Minibus
  4. Commuter train
  5. Sleeper train
  6. Scooter
  7. Bicycle
  8. Elephant
  9. White-water raft
  10. City bus
  11. Sleeper bus
  12. Airplane
  13. Water taxi
  14. Tuk-tuk
  15. Pickup truck
  16. Honda CRV (riding in the trunk)
  17. Moving walkway

My favorite would either be the white-water rafting or the scooter (we rented these and drove around the mountains in Thailand). My least favorite would have been the time we didn’t buy tickets for the sleeper train on time, so had to ride in third class with fans only and bugs a plenty for 14 hours.

We white-water rafted outside of Chang-Mai, Thailand. It was much more exciting and enjoyable than I expected with the river so low.

I haven’t gone to Vietnam yet, but plan to in June. Tips?

    @ Liam

No! Thankfully it was just too many people to fit in the passenger compartment. Five of us were visiting two of my friends in Bangkok. One of our hosts drove and the other climbed into the trunk space as well. Great hosts…mode of travel is not recommended.
